Executive Director
Stu Johnson is the executive director of Connect Ohio, a division of Connected Nation, Inc. Stu serves as the primary spokesperson to local, regional, and statewide media regarding Connect Ohio programs. He directs the community-by-community broadband planning and implementation process by supporting local and regional task forces and assists and provides consultation to the teams in implementing specific strategies and actions for reaching local goals. Stu oversees Connect Ohio’s Technical Assistance program, aiding communities without connectivity to craft viable plans for inclusion and oversees community projects and provides updates on technology expansion. He also directs and provides continuity for Connect Ohio’s Every Citizen Online program, meeting objectives for a number of facilities, students, and other metrics for the success of the program within and beyond the period funded by Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) grants.
Stu has over 20 years of executive level telecommunications experience and joined Connect Ohio after serving as CEO of Network Advantage LLC, a nationwide contracted consulting company delivering Business Strategy, Capital Funding/M&A, Sales, Marketing, and Distribution Management Services, specializing in new ventures and turn-arounds with emphasis on technology and telecommunications.
Stu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from The Ohio State University.
Administrative Assistant
Katie Beaumont is the Administrative Assistant in the Connect Ohio office where she serves as eceptionist and provides administrative support for the executive director and other staff members. In addition, she is responsible for facilities management and assists with special events.
Prior to joining Connect Ohio, Katie worked for Godman Guild Association’s T.E.E.N Program where she most recently served as Administrative Coordinator/Grants Manager. In this role, she was responsible for developing and implementing program processes, managing the program’s budget, and ensuring compliance with funding sources. Before her tenure at Godman Guild, Katie served as Regional Field Organizer for the ONE Campaign where she coordinated events and volunteers within a five state region and developed training tools and resources for grassroots outreach.
Katie has earned a B.A. in English and African-American Studies from The Ohio State University.
Jeff Beebe serves as Connect Ohio's State Operations Manager for counties in the northern portion of the state. Jeff implements community-specific aspects of Ohio’s statewide strategy, manages strategic and key stakeholder relationships across multiple industries and client types at the local levels, and facilitates GIS-based Inventory Assessment of existing broadband infrastructure and service availability within the territory. Jeff actively manages the Every Citizen Online program in the northern territory and builds and maintains relationships with broadband providers on a community-level to obtain coverage information and act as a liaison between providers and residents desiring broadband access.
Before joining the Connect Ohio team, Jeff served as the Information Technology Manager for the Ashland County Commissioners in Ashland, Ohio, where he administered the county networks, websites, e-mail, telephone systems, and other technology-related projects for the county offices. Jeff applied for, received, and administered an $80,000 Ohio Department of Development grant to explore the feasibility of creating a county-wide Broadband project. He was a township trustee for Troy Township in Ashland County where he administered, enforced, and executed the policies and resolutions of the Township.
Jeff holds an MBA from Akron University in Electronic Business and the Ohio Basic Economic Development Certification.
Heather Delany serves as Connect Ohio's State Operations Manager for eight regions that consists of 28 counties within the southern and western portion of the state. Heather implements community-specific aspects of Ohio’s statewide strategy, manages strategic and key stakeholder relationships across multiple industries and client types at the local levels, and facilitates GIS-based Inventory Assessment of existing broadband infrastructure and service availability within the territory. She joined Connect Ohio in 2008 and served as a project manager, where she developed project planning processes, administered project plans, managed workflow and time lines, and documentation in support of all community planning initiatives. In this role, she also assisted with grant writing, event coordination and other projects.
Heather has more than seven years experience in the banking and securities industries and formerly worked in project management and as a project life cycle analyst for JPMorgan Chase in Columbus. She also served in sales for The Ohio Company, a Columbus brokerage firm.
She attended North Central Technical College and Columbus State Community College. Heather is also a licensed Ohio realtor.
Technical Outreach Coordinator
Benj Foor serves as technical outreach coordinator for Connect Ohio. In this role, he provides project support for the Connect Ohio last-mile application and, in coordination with the Connected Nation GIS, Research, and Technical Services teams, creates research summaries, propagation studies, and mapping and research tools, such as Google Earth layers. He assists community teams and broadband providers with grant writing and funding recommendations to assist with broadband expansion initiatives. Benj maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies and researches their potential application on community client engagements.
Benj holds a B.S. in Business Administration from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business.
Public Relations Intern
Lyndsey Kleven serves as the Public Relations Intern for Connect Ohio. Lyndsey’s duties include assisting the public relations specialist and office staff with coordinating events, building public awareness of Connect Ohio and the Every Citizen Online program through social media and traditional media formats, identifying story concepts, providing follow-up to media inquiries, compiling project reports, and organizing program databases.
Lyndsey is a recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication
Public Relations Specialist
Amanda Murphy is Public Relations Specialist for Connect Ohio. She maintains consistent communication with public and private partners and coordinates with media outlets across the state to gain maximum exposure for the organization’s activities, events, and projects. Amanda also assists in the oversight of a comprehensive public awareness campaign through television, radio, and print media and maintains Connect Ohio’s website and social media platforms.
Prior to joining Connect Ohio, Amanda worked at WCMH-TV NBC 4 in Columbus, Ohio for over seven years where she served as News Assignment Editor, Photojournalist, and Editor and assisted with website content. In addition, she has served in a social media marketing and media relations role with iPlanIT Global LLC.
Amanda holds an M.S. in Marketing and Communication from Franklin University and a B.A. in Communications and Broadcasting from Otterbein University. Amanda serves as a Board of Trustee member and volunteer for Friends of the Shelter, an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization in Columbus, Ohio.
Project Coordinator
Nicole Smolic is Connect Ohio’s project coordinator. She administers project plans, manages workflow and timelines, handles reporting for grant programs, and supports databases and related web application platforms. Nicole maintains project processes for Connect Ohio’s Every Citizen Online program, managing program procedures and communications between Connect Ohio staff and the nearly 100 sub-recipients involved. She also assists with special event and meeting coordination, preparation, and content.
Prior to joining Connect Ohio in 2009, Nicole served as a legal assistant for the law firm of Moscarino & Treu in Cleveland and previously was the producer for The Learning Lunchbox Program and Family Guide, an educational documentary series produced by Outreach Communications.
Nicole holds a B.A. in Telecommunications from Bowling Green State University.
Compliance Coordinator
Vicki Wahl is Connected Nation’s compliance coordinator. She joined the Connected Nation team in August 2008 as the Administrative Assistant for Connected Tennessee. As Compliance Coordinator, Wahl assures compliance of sub-recipients with the federal grant awards of CN and its subsidiaries and serves as a liaison between grant program staff, the grants Management staff, and sub-recipients.
Prior to joining Connected Nation, Wahl served as director of community development for the Mississippi RiverKings professional hockey team in Southaven Mississippi. With the RiverKings, she was responsible for relationship development with corporate sponsors, season ticket holders and non-profit organizations. In addition, she organized player community appearances and assisted with ticket sales and sponsorships Wahl is originally from Owosso, Michigan and holds a bachelor of science in business administration from Central Michigan University.
Data Validation Intern
Jon Welsh serves as the Data Validation Intern for Connect Ohio. Jon’s duties include traveling to communities across the state to locate, document, and validate signal strengths at local deployment sites. Jon polls consumers and community leaders and manages broadband inquiries to ensure that reliable and the most up-to-date data is reported for Ohio’s broadband mapping initiative. Jon also supports the Ohio office with administrative and office duties to promote broadband data collection, validation, improvement, and communication.
Jon is a recent graduate of Ohio University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Information Technology Systems. Jon is a member of Phi Kappa Tau. Before joining Connect Ohio, he held a position at Ohio University’s Environmental Health and Safety office.
Technical Outreach Manager
Bart Winegar serves as Technical Outreach Manager where he develops professional relationships with key stakeholders in Ohio and identifies and develops availability and capacity programs, primarily for last-mile applications. In addition, he also works with State Operations Managers to coordinate delivery of mapping and coverage data projects in support of CN mapping initiatives.
Bart Winegar’s thirty year career in information technology and telecommunications includes serving as President of STI Communications; an Ohio based CLEC. He also served as Vice President of SOTA Technologies, Inc. with a company primary focus on network engineering, VoIP and ISP services. Bart also served as President of AEGIS Consulting, LLC assisting small businesses with leveraging information technology.
