Broadband Heros

Zack Space

Friday December 09, 2011

Former U.S. Representative for Ohio's 18th congressional district Zack Space was presented with a Broadband Hero Award Friday, December 9, 2011 at Connect Ohio's Technology Association Meeting in Columbus.

Space, a lifelong native of Appalachian Ohio, has a long record as a public servant. He received his undergraduate degree from Kenyon College and a law degree from the Ohio State University. His experience includes practicing law in Ohio for twenty years, serving as the Director of Law for the city of Dover, Ohio, and spending two-term in the United States Congress (2007-2011).

While in Congress, Space sat on the prestigious Energy and Commerce Committee, The Highways and Infrastructure Committee, and the Committee on Veterans Affairs. Through his position on the subcommittee on Technology and the Internet, he was able to successfully champion funding for the ambitious “Connecting Appalachia” broadband expansion program, which saw the infusion of over 100 million dollars in public and private capital for broadband build-out in chronically underserved areas of southeastern Ohio. His tenure in Congress was marked by a feverish commitment to advancing the cause of economic development in Ohio’s 18th Congressional District., where he helped facilitate investments in the hundreds of millions of dollars on wide-ranging subjects including advanced energy, telecommunications, highway infrastructure and educational development.

Space has been honored for his work through numerous awards and recognition, including the Development Districts of Appalachia Congressional Award, the Stop Diabetes Distinguished Leadership in Diabetes Policy award, The OVRCC Leadership Award, and the National Association of Community Health Centers Distinguished Community Health Defender Award.

Zack Space currently works as a Principle with the Columbus-based firm, Vorys Advisors. His wife, Mary, and he have two children, Gina and Nicholas.
