Morrow County Welcomes Comprehensive Technology Plan
Morrow County, Ohio now has an action plan to make way for greater technology use across the community and pave the way for a brighter economic future. The Technology Action Plan was unveiled Wednesday, October 30, in Mt. Gilead as part of Morrow County’s participation in the Connected Community Engagement Program through Connect Ohio. Six Ohio communities are currently involved in some stage of the Connected program. Morrow County is the state’s third community to unveil its official Technology Action Plan and be presented with a detailed action plan for the future.
“Morrow County continues to be very progressive in every aspect associated with development and building community infrastructure,” said Patricia Davies, Director of Operations for Morrow County. “Connect Ohio has been a collaborative partner in assisting Morrow County in taking inventory of our technology assets. Morrow County’s community scorecard shows our County schools are excelling and our local government and healthcare providers are gaining connectivity momentum. This report is a great baseline to guide our future planning and efforts. I am very optimistic that Morrow County will continue to make positive progress.”
Participating in the Connected program means Morrow County has gone through an extensive assessment of its overall broadband and technology innovation. The Technology Action Plan sets general community-wide broadband connectivity requirements to be worked towards that will support economic development and residential quality of life.
“This Connected Technology Action Plan is a big key to success for both the present and the future of Morrow County,” said Connect Ohio Executive Director Stu Johnson. “As one of the few Ohio communities to receive a plan through the Connected initiative, Morrow County is ready to go to work on utilizing broadband and technology as key drivers for a prosperous future. A Technology Action Plan means this community is serious about making sure it’s ready to benefit from all the economic and lifestyle opportunities that the digital age provides.”
The new plan gives the community step-by-step action items to make sure that goal is met. The plan will also support growing digital literacy through future broadband expansion and programs that will ensure the community maintains widespread Internet access, adoption, and use. One of the priority action items for Morrow County is to work with Connect Ohio on establishing a Digital Works facility. An initiative of Connected Nation, the Digital Works program creates jobs by leveraging broadband technology for twenty-first century workforce opportunities and community revitalization.
