New Era Broadband Celebrates Midway Progress of Broadband Expansion

A ribbon-cutting event on January 22 marked the midway point of New Era Broadband’s high-speed expansion project to the many unserved and underserved homes and businesses in Meigs County. Hired Participant Perspective of Digital Works

Roberta Molinero was part of the first Digital Works Portsmouth training class that started last October. Before coming to Digital Works, Molinero, 47, of Portsmouth had been unemployed for years. She had gone back to school to pursue a teaching degree, but fell short when her financial aid was cut off. Molinero also has Multiple Sclerosis, which made it increasingly challenging for her to hold a job. Digital Works Portsmouth, Nick Pertuset The Digital Works training process typically takes four to six weeks for most participants to complete. Nick Pertuset was able to complete the training process in just three short weeks.   “From day one it was evident that he would most likely not require the normal amount of time allotted for the program,” said Tammy Spring, Digital Works Facilitator. “He was a very quick study and showcased his abilities when he submitted 68 words per minute on his first typing test.” Nick was offered a level one customer service position and started receiving a paycheck after just three weeks of training....

Digital Works Logan, Winnifer (Faye) Saldana Faye Saldana attended the Digital Works training in Logan.  Her customer service skills and prior experience enabled her to complete the Digital Works training and obtain an offer for employment with a level-one opportunity in less than one month.   “Faye’s training completion time in itself is extraordinary, but coupled with the fact that she had to miss two weeks of that training time period, her accomplishment is nothing short of amazing,” said Tammy Spring, Digital Works Logan Facilitator.  Faye accepted the offer and has started working from the Digital Works center. ...
